Free to be a Slave

They were a slave to their warrior heart.

They wanted the same as you and me.  Quiet mornings, slowly waking, coffee cup in hand.  Wind blown hair, windows down on a days get away drive. Late night movies, holding hands.

Oh, they tried. A week long try to do the normal couldn't silence. They heard it lurching behind the quiet, could see it creeping in the distance.  It haunted their sleep and threatened their loved ones.

The enemy was real and threatened to steal the freedom. Freedom for the quiet. The long walks along the river road. The freedom to be.  And the freedom to choose.

With each beat louder than the one before, they marched their way toward battle. They knew the risk. The loss. But they were slave to freedom. Slave to their warrior heart.

Yesterday, we celebrated the birthday of America. Not long past... Memorial Day 2017, we honored the warrior hearts that demanded freedom and paid the price for ours.

The children coming. The grandchildren to be. A chance. One chance to be a slave...to be free.

Romans 6:18 "You have been set free from sin and have become slaves to righteousness." vs. 20-23: "When you were slaves to sin, you were free from the control of righteousness. What benefit did you reap at that time from the things you are now ashamed of? Those things result in death! But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves to God , the benefit you reap leads to holiness, and the result it eternal life. For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Jesus Christ our Lord."

You see,  there is only one way to freedom. One way to eternal life. The freedom comes in the choosing. The gift of what will master our heart, mind. Our very soul.

As slave to one, we wear the shame, like a dead weight ball on our prisoner heart. As slave to the other, our soul basks in the solace of a holy heart and a life eternal. A slave we are. To whom we must choose.

And they fought for your choice. What will you choose?

There is a thought that we simply are.  A slave to no one. A master my own.  Yet addiction lies under the surface of such freedom.  An addiction to "I want."

If we are not slave to Christ and a pursuit of holiness, then we are slave to sin and the never-ending "I want."

You too have a warrior heart!  Can you hear the beating, the desire to protect the freedom of those you love?  Are you ready and willing to go to battle.  To fight to be free.  Free to be slave...a slave to be free!

This is the foundation of the 'Journey Up' life.  You have a warrior heart!  Choose wisely!
