Welcome Men

So as you're probably figuring by now, my family is just beginning a new season.  Exhilarating and terrifying all at the same time.  Instead of waiting until we get to a season of our life where we have everything figured out, we can sense the Lord telling us to be very real with you about the ups and downs.  Not because we have all the answers, but because the Lord is calling us to encourage any family that still desires to follow in His steps.

After 24 years of ministry, we are very aware that there are sadly few families that still take their faith seriously.  Families who would arrange their entire life around the question, "What does God's Word say?" when making every practical decision in life.  I believe this is due in large part to the epidemic of family leaders who have been seduced away from their true calling.

Men, God has always intended that you be the leader of your family.  Not just in bringing home the bacon, but bringing home the Bible! First in your example, and then in your family ministry. God designed your heart to carry out the Great Commission in your home.  He wants you to prioritize "making disciples" over your culture's priority of "making money.

This vision is given to us in Ephesians 6:4 where Paul writes, "Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord."  I also find it very interesting that this verse comes after he tells us earlier in Ephesians 5:25, "Husbands, love your wives as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for..."  Men who love and lead their families with God's love could bring restoration to a nation!

But my brothers, as I speak about your Leadership Mandate, let me also be the first to say, "I totally understand why the majority of men are timid if not even scared stiff to pick up the mantle of leadership in their home, church, or world.  You know that the moment you do, you will most likely get a head-shot.  Or worse yet, a heart shot.  Whether from your wife, your children, or your culture.  You know that you will face ridicule, disrespect, if not even sheer anger. "

So instead of submitting yourself to all that pain, you might be tempted to join the masses of men who simply step back and disengage from leading anywhere.  Oh, your culture still says you can do some leading in your business or hobby.  But leading relationally or spiritually is totally off-limits for men in the 21st century culture.  And sadly, I would have to put the 21st century church right there in the same category.

So I want to assure you that you've come to a ministry that is going to boldly cast Biblical vision no matter the cultural cost.  So you'll hear me holding you accountable a lot.  In every podcast, blog post, etc.  At the same time though, I want you to know that I will always seek to find "that place where truth meets grace".  That means I won't shrink back from casting big Biblical vision.  Nor can I shrink back from giving you a lot of God's Grace.  First, because I know how much grace the Lord and my wife must give to me each day.  That grace is the only motivation to climb these heights.

So let's give each other permission to be human on this journey, as we seek to climb the holy heights together!

As I mentioned on the Home Page, this summer I will mostly be focusing on my family as we transition from local church ministry into this new season.  I will be making every effort to podcast and blog when I can.  If you would like to ask any questions or respond to me directly, you are welcome to email me at:  scott.journeyup@gmail.com.

Blessings onyour journey up today brother!
