Let's just admit it, our wives are a lot better at connecting on-line than we are. I'm truly amazed at how easily and effectively my wife is able to relate to her on-line sisters in the Lord. They will message and post for hours and really seem to benefit. That's not been my typical experience on-line, and I'm guessing that it hasn't been yours. I'm not really sure what all the reasons are, but I sense them coming at me even as a I type.
Men, I would want you to know as we begin our journey together for however long the Lord enables us, that I consider it an honor to be climbing the heights with you. The very fact that are curious enough, care enough to read these words, tells me that your heart is turned the Lord and to your family. Praise the Lord for that reality!
I'm going to work hard to begin bringing to you regular encouragement via this blog, podcasts, and other resources that our family is putting together. I must warn you that you are about to take a drink from a fire hydrant. I will try to break it up into drinkable portions that are life-giving and practical.
At this stage in my life, everything I write or create, I do so with the question, "Will this encourage and equip my own children and grandchildren to raise up the next generation to fear the Lord and keep his commands?" If it doesn't contribute to that end, it's not worth spending time on. But if does, its worth every moment I can possibly give to it!
Let me start with one of the most powerful verses that has guided my heart in paths or righteousness on many tough days on my journey up. It's found in Psalm 112:1-2 and says, "Praise the Lord. Blessed is the man who fears the Lord, who finds great delight in his commands. His children will be mighty in the land; each generation of the upright will be blessed."
You live in a world that seduces our heart to delight in everyone and everything but the Lord. Yet we are given an amazing promise of generational blessing that will even impact our children's children IF we fear the Lord and find GREAT delight in his commands.
These verses have brought me great encouragement, and great accountability. For in the daily struggle of life when my heart is being seduced, this verse comes in and asks me, "Right now am I greatly delighting in obeying the commands of my God?" If in any way I am questioning them, I am not. If I'm disappointed or even bitter that I have to keep them, my heart has already been seduced and in need of the power of the Holy Spirit to get back on the journey up.
May you find great blessing on your journey up as together we delight in the Lord commands. For as we do, the overflowing result will be "mighty children" who will praise the Lord in their generation, even after we are long gone.
Climb on brother!
